On Friday, producers of the Broadway show, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, opposed the motion to dismiss counterclaims of writer Julie Taymor. Counsel Kirkland & Ellis opened its brief by going right to the source: “As Spider-Man himself has taught us, with great power, comes great responsibility. It appears that this lesson has been lost on Taymor, however, who now seeks to avoid her obligations.” The produces claim that Taymor was hired to write a play about Spider-Man, but insisted focused on “Arachne,” a character not from the Marvel comic book that inspired the musical but from Greek mythology.
