On August 16, members of the band The Turtles, famous for songs such as “Happy Together” and “It Ain’t Me Babe,” filed a class action asserting New York common law copyright claims against the satellite radio station Sirius XM for playing songs that were recorded before the federal Copyright Act of 1972, which governs recordings after its enactment. The Hollywood Reporter has more details on a substantially similar suit recently filed by the same plaintiffs in California. The case is before Judge McMahon.
