In a complaint filed yesterday, a New York portrait artist has asserted claims against former drug executive Martin Shkreli over artwork used for the Wu-Tang Clan album “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.”  According to the complaint, the plaintiff created portraits of Wu-Tang Clan members for use on a fan website – but did not grant a license for them to be used as part of the album art.  Mr. Shkreli allegedly paid $2 million for the only copy of the album.  The complaint contains a single claim for copyright infringement and asks for injunctive relief as well as statutory and contractual damages.  Two members of the group and an auction company are also named as defendants.

A judge has not yet been assigned.
